What is Laser Vein Removal of Telangiectases?
Telangiectases are red lined patterns on the skin caused from widening tiny blood vessels. These patterns form gradually and often in clusters. They are sometimes known as “spider veins” because of their fine and web-like appearance.
The exact cause of telangiectases is unknown. Medical professionals believe several causes may contribute to the development of telangiectases. These causes may be due to genetic, aging, pregnancy, alcoholism, certain medical conditions, or a combination of both. It’s believed that most cases of telangiectases are caused by chronic exposure to the sun or extreme temperatures. This is because they usually appear on the body where skin is often exposed to sunlight and air.
Telangiectases are common in areas that are easily seen such as the nose, chin, and cheeks. Some people find them unattractive and choose to have them removed. Laser vein removal is a treatment by which the hemoglobin in the targeted blood vessel absorbs a concentrated beam of light energy causing the vessel to be destroyed. Dermacare offers laser vein removal for the face using one or a combination of two different lasers – The Coolglide Vantage and/or The LimeLight.
Indications:
- Facial veins
What happens during a Laser Vein Removal treatment?
The laser heats the blood within the targeted vein causing coagulation and destruction of the vein. The vein is reabsorbed by the body and blood flow is redirected to appropriate deeper veins beneath the skin’s surface. Some clients have described the sensation during treatment as a mild stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered, but most find the treatment very tolerable.
What should I expect after a Laser Vein Removal treatment?
The majority of clients notice their veins have shown significant improvement within 2 to 6 weeks following treatment. However, many clients see an improvement immediately following the procedure. Common temporary side effects of the treatment are mild redness and swelling of the skin. These side effects will typically resolve within 24 hours.
Who can be treated?
Laser Vein Removal is ideal for clients with light to medium skin types.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically two treatments are necessary. A treatment plan will be customized to fit each client’s needs depending on the number of veins and the size of the area treated.
