SkinPen Microneedling and PRP is a procedure that utilizes the patient’s own blood to revitalize the skin and increase healing. How does it work? Tiny needles from the SkinPen device cause micro-injuries to the skin prompting a healing response, but first, a small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn by a nurse practitioner and placed into a centrifuge to separate the plasma. This platelet-rich plasma, which contains high concentrations of stem cells and growth factors, is then applied topically prior to and during the microneedling procedure. This helps speed the skin’s healing response and produces new collagen and elastin – the building blocks of firmer, tighter-looking skin.
