It’s here! An injectable treatment for Cellulite!

Cellulite isn’t your fault. It’s just a natural part of a woman’s biology. Most women will have cellulite in their lifetime – about 9 out of 10 women, in fact. Unfortunately, no matter how much you work out, eat healthy, or wish it away cellulite won’t budge unless you get to the source. You should always maintain your healthy habits, but if you really want to reduce cellulite, you need to understand what’s behind it.

Cellulite isn’t caused by how much or what you eat, or because you aren’t exercising enough. It refers to the puckered patches of skin that can develop in women of any race and size and as early as puberty. There are 3 things that together cause those signature dimples:

  • Skin – The dermis becomes thin.
  • Fat – Fat cells enlarge and push against the skin.
  • Fibrous Bands – Fibrous bands (septae) under the skin thicken and shorten causing tension.

Good news!  QWO is here! Dermacare is proud to be one of the first clinics in the Gainesville and Central Florida area to offer QWO – the first and only FDA-approved injectable for cellulite in the buttocks of adult women! It is a non-surgical treatment clinically proven to reduce moderate to severe cellulite.

How does QWO work?

After injection, it is believed that QWO initiates a cascade of events called Enzymatic Subcision and Remodeling (ESR). There are three components of ESR. First, enzymes called collagenases target and release the shortened fibrous bands that tether the dermis to the deep fascia. Then, fat lobules that have been pushing against the thin skin are allowed to redistribute. Last, stimulation of new collagen growth occurs helping to thicken the dermis resulting in smoother skin. Currently, QWO is only FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women; however investigations for its use in additional areas of the body are being conducted.

Are there side effects of QWO?

QWO is the most clinically studied FDA-approved cellulite treatment; however, there are risks associated with this product. QWO may cause serious side effects including allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis. The most common side effects of QWO include injection site bruising, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling, and warmth in the treatment area.  During the clinical studies, adverse reactions were mild to moderate and resolved within 2-3 weeks without treatment. No additional safety concerns were identified with six months of follow-up. Dermacare offers complimentary consultations to review these and other possible risks and to determine if QWO is right for you. Additional safety information is available upon request.
