Pearl™ Laser Procedure
What is the Pearl?
The Pearl is the first of the "new-generation" skin resurfacing dermatological technologies used to reduce age spots and brown spots and renew the skin's surface with beautiful, visible results...all with less "social downtime" than other laser technologies. Collagen production continues for 4 to 6 weeks post treatment which smooths and softens the skin resulting in decreased fine lines and wrinkles. Areas ideal for this treatment are the face and neck. Unlike multiple, costly “fractional” treatments, The Pearl treats the entire area, therefore requiring only 1 to 2 treatments with relatively little downtime or discomfort. To achieve maximum benefits the Pearl can be combined with other treatments, skin care products and/or cosmetic dermatology lasers offered by Dermacare of Gainesville. Questions? Click here.

What happens during the Pearl Treatment?
The top layer of the skin is treated with small pulses of light. A portion of the epidermis (skin’s surface) is carefully removed and a natural, protective dressing is formed. The Pearl treatment simultaneously sends heat into the deeper layers of the skin resulting in the stimulation and production of new collagen production.
What does the Pearl treatment feel like?
Most patients describe the treatment as a feeling of brief pinches, and tolerate the treatment quite well.
What should I expect after the Pearl treatment?
The best description of the appearance as well as the sensation of the skin post treatment is likened to a moderate sunburn. The clinician will apply a soothing ointment to keep the skin moist. Home care is straight forward, but the skin must be kept clean and moist for 3 to 4 days following treatment. The protective dressing peels off 3 to 4 days post treatment revealing new, healthy skin beneath. Sun exposure will need to be limited for a few days following the treatment since SPF cannot be applied during this time. Most patients will be able to wear mineral make-up starting on day 4.
When will I see the results?
The results of the Pearl treatment are amazing as it delivers noticeable improvement as soon as the skin peels. The skin appears younger and much healthier as the superficial tissue sloughs off. The best results are achieved 3 to 6 months post treatment as the collagen stimulated in the deeper portion of the skin fully develops.
Who can be treated?
Proper skin evaluation is crucial to achieve the desired results. Patients over the age of 18 with sun damage, uneven texture, and fine lines and wrinkles can benefit from the Pearl treatments.
How does The Pearl compare to other laser treatments?
The Pearl is considered a new generation laser because it accomplishes the collagen stimulation similar to the results of today’s lasers that are specifically for collagen stimulation as well as the improved texture and toning similar to older generation lasers but without the lengthy downtime. The Pearl safely and effectively addresses uneven texture, sun damaged skin, fine lines, and wrinkles in 1 to 2 treatments. Fractional laser technologies that are currently offered require several treatments of the skin, making it necessary to have 4 to 6 treatments plus the associated downtime for each session.
