Looking young! - August 6, 2010
One of my VIP clients came in beaming last week to let me know that she was carded at Publix the day before. She said that she wished her teenage daughters had been there to witness it because she thought it was almost unbelievable (she is in her mid 40’s and looks fantastic). So she asked the cashier if she still would have been carded if the girls had been with her. The cashier replied yes, because the reason she carded her was based on the condition of her skin, and that is what they are looking at when they judge if people look “under 30″ or not! This client has been using Retin-A 0.05% nightly for several years along with Obagi Nu-Derm and maintains the glow with monthly Genesis treatments and an occasional microdermabrasion. And she couldn’t be happier!

Get rid of your acne scars for swimsuit season! - August 6, 2010
Would you like to remove your acne scars? If so, now is the time. With the warmer months upon us, it’s hard not to think about what we’ll look like in our bathing suits, at the beach–without makeup.
The good news is, the acne of your teen years doesn’t have to follow you around anymore. There are many treatments available to remove pimple scars, and laser treatments for acne scars is just one.
Preventing and Eliminating Acne
If you still suffer from acne, consult with one of Dermacare’s clinicians to develop a step-by-step skin care routine that will keep your face fresh and clear. Also, keep the following points in mind:
- To prevent further breakouts, eat healthy food. Not all acne is caused by poor diet, but the food we eat can influence the production of acne.
- If you already eat well, and if you take good care of your skin, then it is possible that your acne is hormonal. This is often true for women, and often acne breakouts among women can be predicted by their monthly cycles.
- The bottom line: If you can prevent acne before it starts, you will not acquire additional acne scars. So it’s important to find the cause of your acne so that your scar treatments can be as effective as possible. That said, if you can rule out diet and hormones, you may want to see a doctor about other solutions for your acne breakouts.
If you’ve managed to tame your acne, and now you want to remove acne scars, then read on…
Types of Scars
There are two types of visible scars: Keloid scars, which are raised, and deep scars, which are depressions in the skin commonly called ‘pock marks.’ Both types can be particularly difficult to remove. However, there are many options available, so don’t lose hope if you suffer from these scars.
Holistic Remedies
First off, if you aren’t ready to seek professional help, there are some simple holistic remedies available. Don’t expect dramatic results from these treatments, but as the saying goes, it couldn’t hurt to try them out.
- Oatmeal mask. This will exfoliate the damaged skin cells. For light surface scars, this may be all you need. Sometimes pimple scars are just dark marks that will fade with time, and an exfoliating mask will help speed up this process.
- Aloe vera. This moisturizing agent is known for preventing scars, and may also help to reduce the appearance of visible scars.
- Lemon juice. Surprisingly, lemon juice works wonders on acne scars. It’s part of the Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) group which sloughs off dead skin cells and helps new cells grow underneath. Just apply to skin and leave on over night. Be careful with it though. Some stinging is normal, but if you have sensitive skin, it may burn.
- Tomato slices. Yes, you read that right. Tomatoes may actually help to rejuvenate & repair damaged skin. Just put some thin slices on your face, kick back, and relax for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Topical Prescriptions
There are many topical prescription treatments available. Tretinoin, for example, is a acid form of Vitamin A which gradually removes pimple scars. It’s a part of the Obagi skin care system, and it’s just one of many fantastic products available at Dermacare.
What if I need something stronger?
If holistic methods and topical creams are not enough, there are many clinical procedures available to remove acne scars.
- Laser Treatment for acne scars, often referred to as laser resurfacing, is one of the best options to remove pimple scars.
- Chemical Peels can be applied in varying degrees of intensity, depending on what your needs are.
- On a side note, collagen injections can be used to raise the skin that has developed a depressed scar from acne. If you have a few deep scars and you’re going in for a collagen treatment, you should ask if this might help reduce the appearance of your scars. However, the results of collagen injections are not permanent. This treatment will not remove acne scars, so you will need to repeat the injections about every three months.
If you find yourself avoiding social situations because of your scars, there’s no reason to hide. There are many solutions available. The results may not be instantaneous, but taking the first step today will put you one step closer to having the skin you’ve always wanted.

Stretch Mark Removal Creams: Don’t be fooled by false claims… - August 6, 2010
Do you have stretchmarks? Most women develop stretch marks when their bodies undergo radical changes, such as puberty or pregnancy. And, many women turn to the numerous stretch mark removal creams on the market to resolve this problem.
But the truth is, these creams just don’t deliver on their promises. Stretch mark creams often contain cocoa butter, lanolin, alpha-hydroxy acids, Shea butter, and wheat germ. In the case of prescription creams, they may even come with concentrated amounts of Vitamin A derivatives. However, since these creams only effect the surface of the skin, called the epidermis. They can’t penetrate deep enough to repair the layer of skin beneath the epidermis, which is known as the dermis. Only by reaching this second layer of skin can stretch marks be removed.
How to Prevent Stretch Marks
Prevention is key. Although creams can’t effectively remove stretch marks, there are measures you can take to prevent stretch marks from developing.
Here’s a quick checklist of things you can do during your pregnancy to prevent stretch marks:
- Use the same moisturizing agents in the stretch mark removal creams, such as Shea butter or cocoa butter. Apply them to your thighs, legs, breasts, and stomach to ensure that your skin remains elastic, and therefore, less likely to acquire stretch marks.
- Drink plenty of water to help keep your skin supple
- Eat healthy food ensure that you don’t gain unnecessary weight. Healthy food will also give you the vitamins you need to retain the elasticity of your skin.
- If you need to, take supplements of Vitamins A, C, and E.
Follow these tips, and you will literally “bounce back” from your pregnancy.
Stretch Mark Removal
Now, in terms of stretch mark removal, the only sure-fire way to get rid of them is through laser therapy or Blue Light therapy.
Lasers, which are also used in scar removal, are encourage the production of collagen in the skin. This will in turn make your skin elastic once again. This treatment also repairs the damaged tissue and seals any broken blood vessels, which in turn fills in stretch marks. This process will make those stretch marks fade so you can throw on that bathing suit with confidence.
Blue Light therapy, also known as Blu-U©, is a photodynamic therapy that is often used as an acne treatments, but it can also double as a treatment for stretchmarks. Like laser therapy, it is a safe and non-invasive treatment if administered by a skilled technician. This is another option that will clear away those stretch marks so you can flaunt that new bikini.
In short, don’t waste your money on stretch mark creams only to be disappointed by the results. Do your best to prevent stretch marks before they start, or opt for professional clinicians to reduce the appearance of stretch marks you have already acquired.

GOT KISSABLE LIPS YET? 6 ROMANTIC KISSING TIPS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY! - February 5, 2010
Now that you’ve gotten your “Kissable Lips” dermal filler treatment from Dermacare, it’s time to shower your honey with kisses this Valentine’s Day and ever after! Here are some tips on how to put some extra spark and fun into your kisses:
- Put a lipstick print or lip symbol on Post-It notes. Make a trail of them all over your house with an arrow pointing to the next note that finally leads to your lips. You, of course, are at the end of the trail with a Post-It note over your lips that says, “LIFT FOR KISS“.
- Cut out small red tissue lips, and place them inside an opaque balloon filled with helium (any party store could do this for you). Tie the balloon to your sweetheart’s chair at dinner. When the time is right, shower your love with kisses delivered by a sharp pin. POP!
- Prepare a special “Kissing Breakfast” to serve in bed. Pick foods that you can easily pick up and feed to your love. Make them “pay” for the food with a kiss!
- Celebrate Valentine’s Day with kisses in the shape of a “V” on the face of your sweetheart.
- Inform your love that in honor of the 14th of the month, you will kiss him or her 14 times during the day!
- This is a great way to learn Morse code if you don’t already know it. Find a Morse Code chart. Using long and short kisses, spell out a message to your love and have him or her try to decipher them.

RESOLVE TO LOOK 10 YEARS YOUNGER IN 2010 - January 8, 2010
4 easy fixes for wrinkles, folds and sunspots
“I just want my ‘outside’ to match how I feel on the ‘inside! I’m eating right and exercising, but my skin makes me look older than I actually feel.”
This is one of the most heartfelt and frequently heard comments that our consultants hear from new clients. Maybe you have noticed a few extra wrinkles, folds, or sunspots that weren’t there last year?

2010 Resolution - Excellent Skincare!
We all age at different rates and in different ways, but for the most part there are several things that happen to everyone’s skin that make us look a lot older than we want to look. Here are 4 easy fixes to the top 3 signs of aging that will help you look 10 years younger in 2010.
WRINKLES are a fact of life – as they deepen around the mouth, eyes and forehead they add years to our appearance. As we age the collagen and fat below the skin’s surface is depleted leaving loose skin that soon sags and wrinkles. Even the lips themselves can start to deflate and crease. Sun exposure and smoking can turn barely noticeble lines around the lip line into wrinkles that run vertically causing lipstick to “bleed”. Fat that sits near the brow bone begins to descend, taking the brows down. The once raised, energetic, feminine-looking arch of a woman’s eyebrow is now flattened leaving a more horizontal, masculine-looking arch.
BOTOX is a quick and effective treatment that eliminates wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. Botox also re-creates a more youthful-looking eyebrow arch. The treatment only takes about 15 minutes and is one of our most popular offerings. This is why we designate the last Friday of every month as ‘Botox day’ and offer big savings. This monthly event books up quickly so be sure to schedule early.
FOLDS develop around the mouth due to a loss of collagen. Also, reduced collagen and loss of hyaluronic acid (a natural skin substance that maintains tissue hydration) has a negative impact on lip volume.
Dermal fillers give you immediate gratification by restoring volume loss in the lips and by smoothing out the foldsthat have developed around the mouth. You will be pleasantly suprised how much younger and more refreshed you will look after your very first dermal filler treatment.
SUNSPOTS, another big age indicator, are the result of elevated melanin production due to chronic exposure to sunlight. Sunspots usually start to show up on the skin in a person’s 40s and 50s and vary in size and color, but are usually dark brown. They are normally found on the hands, sides of the face, chest and neck, and any other part of the body that is regularly exposed to the sun. The good news is that the beautiful, translucent, even skin tone of your youth is possible again due to amazing advances in laser technology.
Pearl Laser Resurfacing – our newest and most popular combination treatment, “The Pearl” and fractionated CO2 laser resurfacing eliminate facial sunspots and the vertical “smoker lines” that form around the lips.
FotoFacial – For those who can not afford the downtime that comes with the more aggressive laser treatments there is the option of the FotoFacial,or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) laser treatment which targets the pigment in the cells(sunspots) to destroy them. After several days the cells just “lift” away leaving you with a clearer, more even-looking skin.
With this new year awaits a new YOU. In 2010, resolve to care for your skin and enhance the beauty that you already possess. We have the technology, knowledge and experience to help you eliminate your unwanted wrinkles, folds and sunspots. Consultations are always complimentary and confidential…click here to get started

6 Expert Tips to Protect Your Skin From Old Man Winter! - January 8, 2010

Beautiful Skin - even in winter!
Cold and dry winter months can wreak havoc on your skin. Chapped lips, wind burned cheeks and itchy, scaly skin are all signs that winter is taking it’s toll.
And it’s not just the exposure to nature’s elements – increased temperatures at home or in public buildings cause uncomfortable tightness in your skin. Constantly running dehumidifiers and heaters sap every bit of moisture from the air and increase that negative impact.
To top it off, your sebaceous (oil) glands produce less oil during winter months further compounding the problem. But, don’t worry, you don’t have to go into hibernation this winter…we can help.
How You Can Protect Your Skin
We winterize everything – we have jackets, boots, stockings, scarves, gloves, and hats. Your body requires this special clothing to protect it against weather changes and your skin needs a customized regime to provide ample protection from the brutal winter elements.
Here are 6 tips from our team here at Dermacare that will ensure you look your best at this year’s Christmas party:
1. Steamy Hot Showers, while delightful when it’s cold out, can draw oils and moisture out of your skin. Stick with short warm showers to help retain your skin’s essential oils.
2. Don’t forget the lip balm! Your lips are delicate and tender and will be the first casualty of dry winter weather. We recommend Jane Iredale brown sugar lip exfoliator. It is made of organic brown sugar with no chemical preservatives or synthetic dyes to worry about… you can eat the sugar right off of your lips!
3. Combat thirsty dry skin with richer daytime and nighttime moisturizers. Consider creams that do not contain alcohol and synthetic preservatives, fragrances, and coloring as these have a tendency to strip the skin of its natural oils. We love the SkinMedica Ultimate Daily Moisturizer because it feels silky smooth and includes a lightweight SPF 20.
4. Use a facial exfoliator to combat the increased build up of dead skin cells which can mimic dry skin and make it difficult to achieve an even foundation application. We recommend Obagi Exfoderm Forte, which is a combination of glycolic and lactic acid that will remove dry skin and clean out congested pores instead of opting for an abrasive at home scrub.
5. Adjust your facial cleaner and try a more gentle, hydrating formula. This can have a big impact during these critical winter months. We recommend Obagi Foaming Gel because it is a non-soap cleanser that still provides ample lathering. Your skin feels clean and fresh, not tight and stripped.
6. Don’t forget the sunscreen! The sun can take it’s toll during winter months and if you are planning on hitting the slopes or travelling north keep in mind that refracting light from snow is much worse than the beach or pool. We recommend Obagi Healthy Skin Protection SPF 35, which is a light-weight, complete physical block from the UVA & UVB rays.
Don’t let Old Man Winter get the best of you of this year! Look your best this holiday season by these incorporating these tips into your winter skincare routine.

Pearls of Wisdom - November 11, 2009
SAVE $900
What do women really want? This is a familiar conversation topic during the holiday season, and we’ll let you in on a little secret: She’s got enough earrings! Why not give a gift that makes the woman in your life feel good every time she looks in the mirror? With a visit to Dermacare Laser and Skin Care Clinics, your wife, girlfriend, friend or mom will feel relaxed and rejuvenated, and her skin will have a beautiful, healthy glow.
Dermacare is the only clinic in the area to offer the Pearl™ laser procedure, a break-through treatment that reduces sun damage, pore size, fine lines and uneven texture, all with less overall recovery time than fractional technology. Patients who have had the Pearl™ at the Gainesville clinic are raving about this procedure. During a treatment, the top layer of skin is treated with pulses of light, and a portion of the skin’s surface is safely removed. Simultaneously, the laser sends heat to the deeper layers of the skin stimulating new collagen growth, filling out and decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. A natural protective dressing forms to protect the skin, and after day three or four, the skin peels to reveal soft, smooth skin.
Dr. Richard Sadove, cosmetic surgeon and Dermacare’s medical director, refers to the Pearl™ as a remarkable advancement in technology for the treatment of pigmentation, wrinkles and aged skin. “The benefits for patients are quite remarkable. This type of treatment results in very little interference with a patient’s daily life when compared to other skin resurfacing technologies.”
The Pearl™ has produced amazing results for long-time Dermacare patient, Cathy C. “That is a great name for it because, afterwards, my skin has a shimmery, soft, pearly glow.” Cathy said. “My skin is noticeably smoother and it has much more even tone and texture. Now I don’t have to put on make-up if I don’t want to.” For Cathy, Dermacare is the ultimate gift that keeps giving. “I love coming to Dermacare – no matter what treatment I come for. The people there are so nice. I always feel confident in knowing the treatment I receive is of the best quality in the area.”
